Hammerhead sharks. These well known fish live in tropical, warm waters from all over the world. There are nine species of hammerhead shark, from large to small. They eat a large range of prey including fish, octopus, crustaceans, and sometimes even other sharks! Hammerhead sharks can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) in length and weigh up to 1,000 pounds! WOW! But, sadly, these funny looking sharks are getting closer and closer to becoming extinct. Overfishing is the main threat to these sharks, and is caused mostly by the Asian demand of "shark fin soup". Another threat to these amazing creatures is getting caught and dying in large commercial fishing nets in the Atlantic. This is where hammerheads are rarely taken for their fins. Massive illegal fishing of hammerheads happens in the Indian Ocean and close to Africa. We need to save these guys, so let's call tonights dinner off, no sharkfin soup!
SAVE THESE SHARKS!
